Chaperone Guidelines
There are several opportunities for parents to assist at our events. All parents must
adhere to the following guidelines.
1 . Anyone interacting with students must have successfully completed the criminal
background check on the Fort Bend ISD website. No one may participate in these
rolls until this is complete. http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/comrel/pie/
2 . Chaperones should be wearing their orange BHS shirt or an orange shirt so they
are easily identified. If you will be on the field, be sure to get a field pass. These
can be obtained in the Band Hall prior to the game or at the competition site.
3 . The directors are in charge at all times and responsible for every student –
including yours. Everything must be cleared with the directors if it is a deviation
from the normal routine.
Bus Chaperones
We will occasionally need a parent or two to ride the bus to the games. The following
are the instructions you will need.
1 . Arrive at school 30 minutes before departure and check in the Band office to get
your bus assignment.
2 . After the students are loaded, get on your assigned bus. The front seat will be
open for you. Check in with your student leader and make sure they have taken
roll. Buses will depart when the directors give the ok.
3 . Assist the bus driver when needed if the kids are too loud or out of their seats.
Otherwise, enjoy the ride.
4 . At the stadium, you are the last one off the bus. Do not leave a student on the bus.
5 . Once everyone is off the bus, wait to the side and you will follow the band in. If
the front ensemble needs assistance, they will ask for your help.
6 . During the game, you may sit anywhere in the stands. Report back to the band
section after the final playing of the fight song.
7 . The band will leave the stands and you will wait until everything is cleared
from the area. The loading crew will take care of everything and they will
let you know if they need help. Do a final inspection to make sure the trash
is picked up and that we didn’t leave anything. Proceed to the bus area.
8 . Once the loading crew is finished, return to your assigned bus. Make
sure the student leader has taken roll. Wait for the director’s ok to depart.
9 . Upon arrival at school, you are again the last to leave the bus. Instruct the
students to close all the windows and pick up their trash. Once all the students are
off the bus, do a final walk through to make sure nothing was left behind. Any
lost items please turn in to the Band office.
1 0 . In the Band office, turn in your field pass and you are free to go. Thanks for your
help!
Stand Chaperones
At each football game, we would like two parents to sit in the band section at the top of
the stands with one on each side. Your responsibilities will include the following:
1 . Arrive at the football game site about 30 – 45 minutes before game time. All
games this year will start at 7:00 pm so plan to arrive around 6:15 pm. Proceed to
the band area and check in with the band directors.
2 . The students are not allowed to leave the band area during the first half.
Encourage the students not to congregate in the aisles when getting water
from our water jugs. No one is allowed to enter the band area during the first
half unless you have been given prior notification from the band directors.
(Sometimes former band members will join us to increase our stand sound and
they should have on an orange shirt.)
3 . Once the band leaves the stands for halftime, please stay at your station and keep
other people from walking through the band area or sitting there during halftime.
This is especially important during Homecoming s the crowd tends to be a little
more boisterous and is usually pretty crowded.
4 . During the third quarter, students may go to the bathroom as long as they are in a
group of 2 or more and must be accompanied by an adult. You do not need to go
inside just stand outside the doors so you can take a group of girls and boys at the
same time. People may also visit with the band members during the third quarter
but encourage them not to congregate on the stairs.
5 . During the fourth quarter, the same rules for the first half apply. No one should
be in the band section. At the conclusion of the game, after the band has played
the final fight song, you are free to go.
6 . If a student needs assistance during the game, the directors will call on you to help
or to find someone to help them.
7 . Students may not leave the band section with their bibs unzipped or coming off
their shoulders.
8 . If a parent wants to send their student a drink, they may only send them water.
Tell them thanks but the kids are not allowed to have any other drinks or food in
the stands. The students are well aware of this fact.
9 . If you have any questions or you are having a problem with someone, get one of
the directors to assist you. You do not have to be the “bad guy” on your own.
1 0 . Thank you for helping to keep our kids and our equipment safe and secure.
